Industrial Electrician or Electrical Technician – Dunedin Based

We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Industrial Electrician or Electrical Technician to join our Dunedin branch. This is a dynamic, site-focused role that spans multiple disciplines, including electrical installation, maintenance, automation, and instrumentation.

You’ll be required to travel and work on-site across the South Island, often within demanding industrial environments. The role offers hands-on variety and the opportunity to build advanced skills in electrical design and automation technologies.

This is a permanent position offering long-term development for the right candidate, with a competitive remuneration package based on experience.

Key Responsibilities

​

  • Perform industrial electrical work, including installation, maintenance, and fault finding

  • Interpret and work from wiring diagrams, PLC I/O, and instrumentation drawings

  • Troubleshoot and maintain motor control systems, including VSDs and soft starters

  • Assist with PLC/HMI interrogation and automation support

  • Complete risk assessments, Certificates of Compliance (COCs), and safety documentation

  • Represent NZ Electrical Solutions professionally and maintain strong client relationships

  • Mentor apprentices and contribute to a positive team environment

  • Maintain high standards of safety, quality, and workmanship at all times

About You

Minimum Requirements – Electrician

  • NZ Electrical Registration and current Practicing Licence

  • Full New Zealand Driver’s Licence

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a team

  • Commitment to continuous learning and development

  • Willingness to travel and work away from home as required

Preferred Additional Skills – Technician Level

  • Strong fault-finding ability on various OEM equipment

  • Experience with PLCs (interrogation or programming exposure)

  • Solid understanding of motor control – VSDs, soft starters, DOL

  • Familiarity with industrial instrumentation and process control

  • Experience drafting electrical drawings using EPLAN
