Control Systems Technician - Nelson

We have an excellent opportunity for a suitably experienced Control Systems Technician based in our Nelson Office.

This is not a site-based electrical role. This is a hands-on, technically detailed workshop position where you’ll be responsible for building, wiring, and testing control systems that leave our workshop.

Key Responsibilities

You will be the go-to person for control cabinet builds for projects delivered out of our Nelson office. That means:

Reading, interpreting, and marking up electrical schematics and drawings
Laying out panels, building metalwork enclosures, and mounting components
Completing all control wiring to a high standard
Carrying out FAT testing in the workshop
Owning quality, neatness, functionality, and documentation
Working closely with our automation and engineering team to resolve issues early

We use external partners for large power switchboards — your focus is control systems, automation panels, and smaller switchboards.

About You

If you’ve worked in automation, industrial controls, or panel wiring — you’ll feel at home here.

You don’t need to be a registered electrician. What we care about is competence, pride in workmanship, and ownership.

Ideally, you’ll have:

Strong experience with control panel or control cabinet wiring
Ability to confidently read and work from electrical drawings
High standards for wiring layout, labelling, and finish
Experience assembling metalwork cabinets and enclosures
A methodical approach to testing and fault-finding
The confidence to take responsibility for your work end-to-end
